Programs: SevernStat Report

Every year, we provide a SevernStat Report to the Governor and his agency heads that describes the health of the river and recommends protective action. It becomes part of the Governor’s BayStat Program, which assesses, coordinates and targets Maryland’s Bay restoration efforts, and informs citizens about improvements.

In each SevernStat Report we make specific recommendations to improve the health of the river. These include, for example, specific restoration projects and policy improvements. We have had great success with our proposals. In our 2007 SevernStat Report, we recommended additional protection for living shorelines, and during the following legislative session, the Living Shoreline Protection Act of 2008 was passed.
