joinPrograms: Severn River Report Card

The Severn River Report Card provides a transparent, timely, and geographically detailed annual assessment of the Severn’s health. This report card complements the Bay-wide, long-term trend assessment produced by the Chesapeake Bay Program.

The report card incorporates dissolved oxygen data from our monitoring program as well as Submerged Aquatic Vegetation (SAV), Oyster, Bacterial, and Yellow Perch indicators into a single overarching index of health. Health is defined as progress of the five indicators towards established scientifically derived ecological thresholds or goals.

A low score, therefore, means that the Severn rarely meets the ecological threshold levels. A high score means that the Severn often meets the threshold levels.

The first Severn River Report Card was released on March 30,l 2009. It provides an assessment of the previous year's health.
